broken fuel gauge

this isn't really important to me cuz i figured out my exact gas milage so i always know how much i have left. but i was jsut wondering what could be the promlem. it works a little when i wants to. when i fill it up all the way, the most it shows is 3/4 full. when i start driving it goes down. and then after a while it stays in teh lower area. like i said, i dotn really care about this but if there's an easy and cheap fix i'll probably do it sometime

sounds like to me the float is sticking.

what would i need to do? replace is or clean it or what?

never ran in to something like this so i couldnt tell you. id say if you were goin through all the trouble to clean it you misewell buy a new one cuz its a bitch to get too. not sure if you can buy them seperate or if its all one piece. try talking to hocbj or nytrdr there pretty good about stock specs and stuff like that. also try pont.

This is a Very Common Mazda Problem, All 3 of my B's have had some sort of a fuel gauge problem.

lmao i have the same problem, its messed up every new post ppl put up about problems wit there trucks i have too. But yeah i have the same probably, it starts to get accurate wen i have about 1/4 of a tank left. But wen i fill it up it gets bout 1/2 or 3/4.

ya i'm guessing i wont bother with it. i know my gas milage so i know when to fill up.

I had this same issue with my first truck I ended up putting in a new tank and sending unit works great now. You'll probably end up needing a tank my sending unit was 1with the tank lol.

my fuel gauge floats really bad.... i can fill the tank and get on the express way and get up to speed and the gauge will drop off.... will go completly below E and stay that way untill i sit still for 10-15mins.... when i fill the tank it will go up above the F... so i have no idea why it floats so much....

the sending unit in the tank is a very easy swap
