hey does anyone know how if possible to get my b22 with the 2.0 to go over 70 without pushing the engine too much?

sure, drop it from a helicopter LOL

seriously, look up posts by Hocbj or see if you can talk to him, He seems to have alot of knowledge of these motors, but I wouldn't expect much without major mods, turbo, etc...

First,u have a B2200 with a 2.0 liter mota?Someone swapped it out?Heres the deal.Maz is more limited by the 3.9 to 1 rear end ratio than by the engine. Most guys here will tell u the same thing I can tell you-the trucks were made to haul things, not to run fast.At 90 mph (and mine is modified and has an automatic),my Dawg is screaming its little guts out.So that being said, the cheapest fix is a Weber carb,a good aftermarket ignition(MSD,etc),an electric fan(Flexalite, etc)and a good low restriction muffler.Truck will run better and get better mileage.Beyond that, your options are engine swap(V-6,V-8,Kia FI motor,12A-13B rotary,or MazFI turbo stuff). or custom engine internals from somebody like pAECO,ETC.Expensive and modifying the 2000/2200 wont help much unless u want to tinker on a dyno with ur truck-also expensive.I know,I just did it with my truck-about 50 bucks per each additional horsepower gain.Truck still screams its little guts out,but does it faster.Lol.Hope this helps.BJ

Bump.If ur truck has a good engine(no leaks,no blowby, etc) go full synthetics on ur fluids, set time up to 5 degrees BTDC instead of factory 6 degrees and either go one heat range hotter on ur plugs or gap ur current plugs at .035 instead of .o32 .Every little bit helps.BJ

if your just concerned about highway speed, you could swap an 84-85 rx-7 tranny in, which will give you a better gear ratio in 5th...see this link & scroll down the page.

I have a 2nd gen. RX7 tranny center section swap in my red daily driver 2.0. I dont think the years in the post will work but I could be wrong. Made a world of difference top I do 65 mph at 2000 rpm with 205/75/14 tires saves a bunch of gas also.

as far as I understand, after 83 they moved the shifter tower to the side on all the m5 trannys.....you can use any of the 84-91 as long as it's not out of a turbo car. I know you will have to swap out the bellhousing's, and possibly the tailsection of the tranny, but won't swear to the tailsection part, i'm fairly certain that the driveshaft input is the same, only issue would be the shifter tower, and some of the tailsections are longer i believe in the newer cars. the bellhousing is only like 6 bolts, so no biggy, and as i said i don't think the tailsections will be a prob in a b2200, so there shouldn't be an issue with the driveshaft. as far as the shifter, some of the bolt patterns are different, but I do know that mazdatrix.com sells short shifters if your interested...do keep in mind that the b26k trannys are interchangeable with the turbo'd rx's, and the n/a trannys are interchangeable with teh b22k

if your still running the stock b22k's 3.09's and somewhat close to a factory size diameter wheel/tire combo, I don't think you would have too much prob with a 5th gear of .758 or .711, don't know if i'd go with the .691's as you'll probably bog down the engine when shifting into 5th, especially if your not winding the engine out to 3k+.

an easy way to get an idea is on this sites gearing calculator

just plug in the #'s and it will do the calcs for mph at xxxrpm increments, if their is a large diff in mph in 4th & 5th gear at a lower rpm it'll prob bogg down on ya.
