i drive on the freeway every day and even at 60 mph my rmps are a little higher than i like. is there any other transmission out there that would just bolt right on with very little on no mods at all? or is there other things that i can change like the rear end or someting?

My understanding is that the 5th gear of the RX7 is better suited to highway use. But, you would have to find one used and install it into your tranny. There is a rear axel thread discussing other options, but it still sounds like like slim pickins if your looking for something quick and easy.

^^ Ihave this done to my red daily driver mazda I bought a second Gen RX7 tranny swapped the bell housing and tail shaft with my original bellhousing and tail shaft and threw it back in. Dropped about 1000 rpm with 205/75/14's at 60 mph it runs a little over 2000 rpm and saves a butt load of gas. The only bad part is just about any time you want to pass a car you have to put in 4th but the positives out weight that.

does anyone know what parts i need from an rx7 tranny? i think i found one near by and the guy said he would just part it for cheap. once i get the parts i'll worry about installing.

You will need to get a transmission from a 86-91 Naturaly Aspirated RX7. I personally used the one from a 87 N/A RX7 which from what I was told and what I read has the highest fifth gear ration. You will need special bearing pullers and If I remember right a 36mm socket. Those were the wierd tools that I had to borrow.Heres the link's to the website that I followed I pretty much did it exactly as in the link's. The first two links shows you how to do the swap and third link at the bottom shows you the different gear rations.Read them all extremly well!

oh ok thanks. so all i need from the rx7 tranny is the 5th gear, right?

no the whole thing from what i understand

You could just use the fifth gear because thats really all you are benifitting, but it's easier just to use the whole RX7 center section.
