hey guys maybe a stupid question but any ways... i changed all my belts when i replaced my alternator about a 2 or 3 months ago give or take, and my alternator belt has been tightened about 3 times since and today it snapped right off i replaced it today and ask the guy if there were any other more high quality ones. 10 - 4 negative on that one and now its quite.
my question is: Is that the normal life of this belt or have i done something wrong?

when u tighten a belt of any sort, put a straight edge from pulley to pulley, put ur thumb in the middle of the belt and press down. You should be able to deflect the belt about 1/2 inch.anymore it will slip, any less and it will wear prematurely or break.BJ

just a question, have you checked for misalignment of the pulleys? it was proly just too tight though.

I always use Gates belts from CarQuest on all my vehicles. I did have an alternator belt break once after about 6 months and they replaced it for free. The alternator belt and the power steering belt shouldn't be as tight as the AC belt.

Why did you re-tighten the alternator belt "about three times" since replacing the alternator? With the belt off, spin the alternator by hand to see if it has a bearing problem, shouldn't take all that much to spin it.

i re tightened it because it kept coming loose and it would whine like no other!
