Aftermarket tach advice?

My b2k has the speedo-only dash and I really want to add a tach. I have thought about pulling a stock dash w/tach from another truck and swapping but I don't want to screw with getting the odometer reset (I'm anal about keeping track of the actual miles)

Do anybody make a tach that would be low-profile (ie not even a full circle gauge, like a half moon or rectangle shape) that could mount on top of the steering column.

I've looked at after market tachs, but I want something un-obtrusive that would integrate well with the stock dash.

Any thoughts?

Get an instrument cluster with a tach in it. ALL the aftermarket stuff by definition is obtrusive.SunPro makes some very small tachs but they gotta be mounted somewhere.The best 1/2 circle tachs are the old GTO hood mounted ones but they are sittin out there in plain view.The next best are the small Sun units mounted on yor steering column.Next idea is get an A pillar gauge cluster and put one there.On and on-depends on ur imagination.BJ

I agree with bj. Find a stock cluster with a tach and change the odometer to whatever yours says now. Plus you get a clock in the tach cluster haha.

Thanks for the feedback. How hard is it to mod the odometers? Is it easier to turn them forward or backward? (so I know what kind of mileage to look for on a potential cluster)

i dont think you can without screwing them up plus its illeagal

Take a pic of your current speedo with mileage and the date header off your local paper taped to it.Then swap speedos and take another pic showing new miles and the same day paper header with date.That way u can always prove mileage and date of old and new.; and can honestly fill out a mileage statement if u need to sell the truck.I swapped speedos in a car Im building for my granddaughter and that is what I did.BJ
