Today I swapped out the stock carb with a 32/36 weber carb. I think I got it all hooked up right but it dosnt idle right. It idles really high (like 2500 rpms) Tried ajusting the mixture the fast idle and nothing seems to work...maybie i need a fuel pressure regulator. If anyone can help me with this it would help a lot. Oh and if you have some pics of your setup it would also be a big help.

P.S. Thanks in advance

Did you check to make sure the throttle cable is adjusted right so the carb is closing completely? Kind of a stupid question but something to check nonetheless.

i do believe that some of the guys running web carb are running a fuel regulator because of high pressure.....

most have told me not to worry about the pressure regulator because they dont.

im running one and have it set at 2.5 psi

but elbine has a good idea.

Fuel pressure on our mech. pumps is 3.7. .2 pounds more than maximum, which is nothing to worry about from the people I talk to.

Firstly, you definitely want to check that your throttle cable is not pulling on your throttle linkage. Which in turn means it is too short. Now, it should'nt be the problem because if your running the stock throttle cable it should be fine. A note to check is whether or not you have the cable mounted to the bracket the carb came with. I mounted this bracket on the carbs 2 mount studs nearest the valve cover.

Here is my carb to give you a better idea. To really make sure your cable is'nt pulling it, disconnect your cable and then take a marker and make a mark on the cable before it goes inside its sheath. Reconnect your cable and check the mark. If the mark is not visible, you need to adjust your cable. The stock cable has a place where you can adjust the tension of the cable. Adjust the two nuts on the cable so you have some free play before it pulls.

Now, if it is'nt your cable, you need to check my write-up:

As well, if you cannot get the idle down, you may have a vacuum leak. Spray the area with carb cleaner and see if there is a change in idle. But first of all, if there is a vacuum leak, your engine will run rough.

I should also cover 2 more aspects:
1. You need to adjust your IDLE screw not your FAST IDLE screw. The IDLE screw is the screw by the throttle linkage. Refer to Webers tech sheet they sent with the carb for proper adjustment.
2. If you happened to mis this, you also need to make sure your choke is DIS-ENGAGED. By checking, your butterflies, which is the 2 top plates on top of the carb are fully opened.

If not, just read on in my write-up...

Hopefully, this all should help you and you'll be on your way, if not post back up!

Thanks for all the replies but i have ajusted and messed with all of the adjustment screws and i did take off the throttle cable to see if that was it and it didnt help...im so lost...have no idea what it could be.

:\ Listen, you cant just so I tried everything, I'm lost, cause thats not true. That and there is nothing in that statement that can give us any insight as to why it is idling high.

First off, since none of the info I gave you helped, please, write me a detailed description as best as you can of what you did on installation. Include all adjustments you made, etc...

BTW, are you at all mechanically apt? I just dunno whether or not you really know what you are doing, enginewise... No offense and all but some like to get ambitious!

ok finally got it running somewhat right...i had a vacum leak in the hose going from the pcv valve to the manifold but i think i got another one somewhere but it runs much better now...and yes HeX0rz i am mechanically inclined...

Aye, well keep sprayin that carb cleaner!
