Hi, sorry for the 1st noob post. I'll post more if I get this truck, promise.

I am looking at a '94 B3000 4x4 extended cab for winter driving. This is a neighbor's truck and he wants it GONE. So he's offered to sell to me DIRT cheap. Anyhow, I got the keys the other night and went to drive it. It's a 5 speed. As soon as I let the clutch out it clunks VERY BADLY from the front, I think it's driver side.

I'm fairly mechanically inclined here, I know my way around cars a little bit. I'm not very familiar with FWD or 4x4 setups, more of a RWD guy. So, I'm CLUELESS on halfshafts, CV's, front transaxles, etc.

I'm wondering if I put this truck up on jackstands tonight, what should I be looking for? Loose axles from transaxle? (Guessing it is the boxy thing at the front).

Can anyone give a noob some help?

when you let out the clutch in what gear does this clunking happen? just in first? also does it happen when your wheels are turned or not? basically just check for all loose things, chances are it could just be a u-joint like you have in the rear, i notice it makes a clunk and viberates at high speeds, when i need to change it...check the front u-joint, its probably needs to be replaced. keep us updated

I'm going to try to check it out more today but it's snowing like crazy here. It does it in all gears at all speeds, and the sound increases as the speed increases. That's what makes me suspect the transaxle or front hubs..

more then likely your front axle, probably need to replace your front unverisal joints, on both sides, thats what it sounds like to me...and there real cheap, just see if you can move the front drive shaft side to side, or up and down, actually anyway...if it does, more then likely its the u-joints, check'em out and keep us updated.
