Has anyone made any control arms, if so what kind of bushings did you use, I have round tube steel to make them out of I was also thinking of mounting the lower links in the factory spring mounts will that work
A lot of people will tell you to not make your own arms. If you do tho, use DOM tube. For bushings just use 2 piece urethane or Currie Johnny Joints. Take all needed measurements from your stockers and you should be set. Good luck man!
*edit* Putting your link mounts inside the frame is better so you don't grind them off.
Use DOM tubing for sure....and energy suspension bushings or prothane bushings....but you had better be a pretty good welder, as there is a lot of stress where the balljoint plate meets the control arm tubing.
I work at a shop that builds railroad cars so steel and welding is not a problem. I read after i posted on this forum that it would not work because the bars would be to short and cause the back axle to be really out of center of the wheelwell as the supension goes up and down and it would tear up the transmission. the measurments they were giving said the bars would be 12- 15" long but my tape says it would be about two feet from the spring mount to the brackets i made.
the bottom bars for the four link, on my mustangs supension i have upper and lower control arms i guess for this purpose they would be called link bars.
You CAN put your lower link bars on the spring mounts, but you WILL drag through them...Mine were like that they were 26" long, but I moved them so they wouldnt drag through anymore.
man, i just realized im talking about the back and everyone else is talking about the front now i feel like a dumbass, what im trying to do is build my own four link. i have already made the notches now i want to make the bars.
lol, make your own make for the bottoms that come off the frame, dont use the factory leaf spring perches, or you will drag half way thru them like I did, and have to replace them like im doing.
