I wanted to run this by you guys here to see what you think about this idea. I'm going to fab my shocks mounts hopefully this weekend while its' nice out.

I plan on getting some 1" DOM tubing with 1/4" wall. That leaves an opening in the center of the tube at about 1/2". Its actually about 7/16" so that is a little better. I have the shock relocation kit from SD that has the lower stud with the smooth end to keep from tearing up wheels and tires if they rub. I plan on taping the inside of the tubing so I can screw in the SD lower mount to keep the smooth end. I figured it would be hard to get it tight enough to keep it from coming loose. I plan to solve that problem by using a grade 8 nut on it as a lock nut that will tighten up against the tubing kinda like the 4 link ends.

What do you guys think about this? Good idea... bad idea... or should I just weld a stud on the end of the tubing and have a nut on the end like Phatkix did for his lower mounts. . Thanks for the pic Phatkix.

yeah I didn't pu the image tags around it. I didn't want to use up any of your Photobucket bandwidth since I didnt ask if it was ok to post that pic here. Figured people could just click on it if they wanted to see it. lol

If you want to tighten it put a slot in the dome head of the SD kit and then use a big ass flat screwdriver to tighten it...

I can get it pretty tight, but would feel better with the added security. The dome side of it has 2 flats side on it to possible use an adjustable wrench or possible get a big wrench that fits it. I just want to make sure it doesnt come loose and to have a little adjustability in it to position the shock a little further forward or back.

run the locktite. that'll hold her

yeah unfortunatly the SD bolt is the same side as the ID of the tubing I got. So no taping it. lol Im just going to weld a stud to the end of it and call it good.

you could shorten the tubing the length of a nut that would fit the stud, weld it onto the end of the tubing, then screw the stud into it.....then use some locktite 242 med-strength instead of a jam/lock nut, but don't use the high strength threadlocker or you will have to cut the stud off to replace the shock.....

I bought some half inch grade 8 bolts today. I'm going to cut the heads off of them and they fit snuggly into the tubing. As soon as I get a step up drill bit I'm going to taper the center of the tubing a little to get a good weld flush with the edge of the tubing. I got 5" long bolts so they go far enough into the tubing to weld from both sides before welding the tubing to the control arm. I plan to do it that way now. I've already started. I just need to get some slightly shorter shocks tomorrow. The ones I have now are too long.
