Rear-end stutter

Okay, most of my vehicles have been front-wheel drives so I know very little about RWD.

Anyhow, my truck started doing something really weird last week and I've stopped driving it for fear of blowin something major.

It shifts fine, the clutch is strong, but there is a pronounced stuttering/cluncking when I accelerate, from any gear.

Could it be that the gear(s) in the rear-end are going bad?

All responses/opinions/questions are welcome!

Maybe Universal joints? could be warn and loose?

Mad mazda is probably right I had the same thing going on in one of my first mazda's the back joint went and every time I shifted all I heared was clunk then a day later it went and what a hell of a racket. It was expencive to to replace.

Pull the pumpkin and check the gears for signs of wear.

i'd check the universals first off...make sure there tight and what not, and then go from there, check the pumpkin like Gravity said, and move along...Those are really the only 2 things it could be that i can think of.

Okay, let me get this straight... the universals are the universal joints in the drive train and the pumpkin is the gear housing in the rear end, gotcha !!

also could be the carrier bearing if so equipped......
