So we are in the process of baggin my buddies mazda b2600i and we are doin the 5 lug swap on it. Front looks like it is gonna be cake once we get the cando arms and some yota spindles.. but what we are on now is the back. we got the rear end from a junk yard out of a 92' yota 2wd and we were doing some measuring on the rear end and comparing it to the mazda rearend and it looks like the toyota rear end is about an inch longer from the point of where it bolts to the drive shaft to the center of the axle... so wouldnt you need to compensate for this?? im wondering if anyone else who has done this has just taken some out of the drive shaft or what you usually do. any help will be appreciated.

thanks, Nate

You need to shorten the driveshaft and have an end from a toyota shaft put on

ok I figured.. did you just change the universal joint and add the other toyota end or do you have to cut the end off the mazda shaft and weld in the toyota shaft end with the universal or what?

thanks again this helps alot

well I have the full Toyota driveshaft, the guy gave it to me when I bought the axle, so I'm just going to have the driveline place use the end of the Toyota driveline on my Mazda one when I have him relengthen it.

you dont do any of that. you take it to the driveline shop and give them your measurements and driveline and toyota end of the ujoint and they finish it and give it back to you

ok cool so it sounds like we are gonna have to pick up a yota shaft so we can get the end off of it and have it added to our madza shaft at the machine shop where it will get shortend, can anybody tell how much they had to take out of their drive shaft to make it right?? im thinking somewhere around 1 1/8" or so but is someone has the right measurement that would be appreciated.. ill try and see if we can get a build thread going for this truck.

When u get ur parts measure from the flange behind the yoke of the tranny to the flange behind the yoke of the differential housing and measure about 6 times with the truck on a flat even surface.Take the measurement, shaft, and yokes to the driveshaft shop and tell them what u want done. They know exactly what to doand the shaft should fit perfectly if ur measuremwnt is accurate.BJ

not to steal the thread but how hard is it to get a mustang rear end in our trucks? same bolt patern as toyotas. are the toyotas narrower?

What you need to do, is bring both driveshafts to a driveshaft shop, not a machine shop. And when you bring them, bring some measurements. Measure the distance between the mounting flange on the rear axle, and the rear of the transmission (not the dust shield, the actual output surface), take that measurement with the axle all the way up, half travel, and full lift and give them those measurements.

or- you don't have to go buy a toyota axle or ujoints.
i know your getting a lot of 'measure this' and 'measure that'
measure from the rear seal on the tranny (as mentioned) to the face of the yolk on the axle. figure 3 below - (tranny on the left, axle on right)

then measure the distance between the 2 little pinion keepers on the yolk of the tranny, then measure the diameter of them. give those numbers to the driveline shop and they probably have a u joint that matches those numbers (that will be brand new) that they can affix to your new driveline.
