i wouldnt cut them the control arms need to stop some where, it might pull on hte brake flex line when you go over a big bump
ball joint spacers seem to be the best way to go, ive go them in my 4runner, and it hasnt changed anything with the ride quality i also cranked the torsions just a little too, to make it a 2" lift
the only thing you'll have to do is make them your self or a machine shop do it, and when your putting those in might as well change the balljoints while your there
