reindexing torsions

has anyone done a write up yet? i know what the basics are, but would like to know a few more things for sure. like---, do you tighten them back up all the way, and then pull them out? and is there splines in there so you know how much you have turned them?

ok, ive just scrolled though a whole mess of posts, and i havent really found an answer to the ? i have. turning the torsion how much gives you how much drop?
example:
1 spline = 1 " drop
this is the formula or fromat im looking for. thanks guys!!
