so im static droppin my truck right now and have run into a snag.i took the U bolts out of one side and theres a nut holding on the leaf pack to the rear end. went to go loosen it an its just turning inside the rear end or wherever the bolt goes. what do i do?? and also after i put my 3" blocks in will this bolt even be used?? doesnt really seem like it..
As far as i know its not bolted to the rear end it should just lift off of it. Its just a round plug kinda thing on top that makes it easier to position the rear end.
If I remember correctly all that is used for is to center the axle and hold the springs together. the blocks should be designed to set on top of this said bolt. I never removed it on my previously static trucks.
Like they said, if this is what you are talking about it is just to help center it up, as well it holds the leaf spring pack TOGETHER. So, don't undo that bolt unless you want a mess!
to unbolt that bolt you have to hold the top with a pair of vice grips.... if your planning on taking leafs out your going to have to unbolt that bolt.... but it is an important part of ligning up the rear end onto the leafs so it need to be put back.... also when removing a leaf or leafs make sure that you leave the bottom shortest thickest leaf on the truck.... also you might find that the bolt doesn't have enough threads after removing leafs.... you'll need a washer or 2 to take up the extra space where the threads arn't.... that is what i had to do when i removed leafs.....
awesome thanks alot again guys!! i got her together. its my first time lowering anything so it was all new to me. i saw that bolt while i was underneath an figured it had to go to get it appart, just ended up i needed to lift the rear end up..LOL..yup total burnt move. but shes done now an looks way cleaner. pics to come.
