Front fender wells?

How did some of you guys cut these out? Are they kinda unibody actually attached to cab and core support? My son's truck rubs a little now and pretty bad on sharp turns, and we are going to flip the ball joints and remove the bump stops so we can get it a little lower so it will start rubbing pretty bad.

I was just going to cut it at the cab and the core support clean up those areas and make a piece of tubing to bolt btw the cab and core support to keep everything stable. Figured I'd put a little bend in it also for a crumple zone so if the front ever got hit it might not destroy the cab.

How's that sound to you guys? And if anyone has any pics of how they did there's I'd like to see.

Thats it. Just cut at the cab and core support then around the arch of the fender well. The brake line runs through the fender well so be carefull with that. I just cut a slit in the fender well and slide the brake line out. You shouldn't need the piece of tube you are talking about, cause the cab is still attached to the core support with the top piece that the fender mounts to. Make sure you keep that part so you have some place for your fender to mount to. I can't find any good pics to show but maybe someone else chimes in.

people leave the lip that the fender bolts to usually. i did kinda what your talking about. couple scraps of 1" square tube welded together. the long piece is bent to fit the contour of the fender, then drilled and tapped so the fender can be bolted on. the short pieces are bolted to the cab and the core support.

you have to drill out all the spot welds to completely remove the inner.

is it rubbing on the inner fender on turns or is it rubbing on the fender itself? I know mine does if I have it dropped too much on some turns.

it lays out on a 235/40r18 with some room to spare. so if yours is just lowered you wouldnt have to cut it out that much

It rubs on some turns but it also rubs sometimes when just running straight. And we had to tighten the torsion bars up a little after we reindexed them because it rubbed. So we want to get the bump stops cut out the bjs flipped and get it a little lower. And I think we are going to bag it in Dec or maybe next summer.

have you rolled your fender lips yet? They rob lots of space.

cutting out your wheel wells should be a last resort unless you're bagged or just running huge wheels.

Jason, I really like what you did with the trailer fenders. That's damn pretty.

It's gonna be bagged. My son won an award at school that I told him if he got I'd pay for it, so now I got to pony up. We are running a pretty tall tire, I want to keep it till we can get bigger wheels, probably 18's. We do need to roll the front lip, but it does rub just running straight down the road, and we want to get it a little lower for a few months before we bag it.
