cross(or diamond) measure your axle compared to your frame. use your stock holes and body mounts, as they should be VERY close to symmetrical, unless there was an accident in the trucks life at some point. its nice to have taken measurements before removing everything... as reference, but most people either forget or just don't do it.

thanks man. that helps a lot. im gonna have to redo my notch in the back and im gonna swap in a mustang rear axle so im def gonna have to take my time nd make sure its right.

what mustang axle? make sure you've got your axle in the center of the wheel opening before you finalize everything. you'll really wanna kick your own ass if you have the thing done and find out its crooked or off center

I am also interested in the proper way to align your axle/links/tabs before tacking everything up

its the axle out of my friends '96 V6 mustang. its abt the same size as the mazda rear axle nd it has disc brakes and a 5 lug pattern. so you are saying i should measure from a point on the frame to the stock axle nd make sure the new axle is in the same spot right... i dont have a bed for my truck right now so that would be the only way i could keep it in the right position...

measure to the center of the diamater of the axle... not all axle are the same in diamater.... to get the mustang centered (side to side) measure from the hub to the frame rail on both sides and make them the same distance from the rails......

ive see a few guys take some u-bolts (while their truck was still bolted to the leafs), with the bed off, have a few people push down on the back of the truck... put the u-bolt upside down around the axle up to the side of the frame and put some good tack on it and that will keep the axle at the correct spot...
