So I have a basic one amp one sub sound system in my truck. I got the viair 480 dual pack and the purple haze deep cycle battery. I am starting the bagging process.

Wondering if my alternator on my '90 b2600i is putting out enough power to run my sound system and 2 viair compressors or if thats too much draw on my poor battery and I should just run one compressor. (8gallon tank).

For those of you with a sound system and 2-480's, How are your trucks batteries holding up? Is there anything that you have done different to help supplement power. Just looking for ideas or peace of mind knowing I can run all this off a stock powering system. Thanks in advance

ya it will be a lot for the truck to take, the stock alt is a little guy, look on here in the tech and there is a topic on doing a alt swap from a ford mustang/windstar, they come with 140 alts and that will help BIG time, plus they are almost a straight bolt in part, very little modding
here you go heres one, theres another one as well but i thought id find it for you

On my Dakota i have 2 480s ...and with subs i have 1 10 l7 solo baric with a 500 Class D Memphis amp.....

Dakota alternators are stout, so i was ok there....but batteries i had issues with ......What i ended up doing was....

Red top for the motor and solenoids (for door poppers, etc.)

Yellow top for comps., sub, anything else extra......I ran a 200 amp isolator in between the batteries so that they will both charge together, but if one goes dead, it will not drain the other

I also have a capacitor on the system, so that i have a little extra stored juice....and a decent read out on whats going on...

I do have an 8 gal. tank..... One 480 will work...i did it for a few years....but 2 is recommended

I hope this helps....Any other questions just ask

As mazdaman said there is a fairly easy alternator swap from an article that will get you more power from the get go. I am running two 480's, 2 10" polk momos with their own 500w amp and a 600w amp for my component speakers and my batter is the 600 kinetic battery. I plan on when I get it running which is close swapping the alt. and If I still have problems I will put a capacitor in for my system. But yes one battery for all of that if the truck is not running will drain fast. I am not a big fan of running two batteries, capacitors etc etc..... Clean and simple for me.

Well you could get 1 battery that could run it all but your looking at a pretty big bat. But no matter what you do....I would get a bigger alternator and upgrade all of my wiring to 1/0. You will see a huge difference in just doing that. Powers and grounds.I run 1 xs power d3100 and a 280 amp alty on my truck..and all my wiring is 1/0 knukoncepts kollossus. And I can run a true 4000 watts with no dimming.

But upgrade wwires a bigger alt and either 2 bats or 1 good one. Check into sears diehard platinums they are good bats and fairly cheap. Id say some group34s

Agreed....upgrading wiring will def. help too! ive done that as well
