I recently acquired a 1990 b2200 from a buddy of mine. Its a pretty cool pickup, it was painted flat/satin black at his body shop, red steeleys, white walls, side exit exhaust, mexican blanket seat, etc. The motor is shot and the clutch was real bad before the motor went. I bought an ltd crown vic for 150 and plan on droppin the drivetrain in the pickup soon. The questions i have are regarding the drop. I want to do this as cheap as possible as the entire project is going to be done very cheap. I have spent alot of time creepin on the forum and know about the torsion bars, lowering blocks etc. I have chosen this pickup as a project because i want something to haul my motorcycles with. I also plan on making a long trip this summer to the sturgis rally with the mazda and a bike out back. Is it possible to drop this mazda considerably and still retain the ability to haul a bike??? I was planning on running 3" blocks in the rear and turn the torsions, im also interested in pics of pickups with these two cheap easy mods so i can see how low im gona sit. Thank you very much

you can do it that way or you can get your leafs in the back de-arched and use a smaller block you will also need to get a set of decent drop shocks. If your going to goi on a long run with the truck and have the bike in the back you will need to do the shocks for sure. I know you are not going to want to drive a truck that will have a rough ride. I would aslo recommend drop spindles as with lowering the truck you may find your tires will wear out unevenly and the drop spindles will help with that alot.

May want to think about some air shocks or helper bags for the rear.

You're supposed to ride to sturgis.

hahaha alright alright. I have ridden to sturgis for the last 3 years and will be riding again this year but i would like to get my 1978 kawasaki kz1000 (8" exteded swingarm, 1428cc big block, zx10 wheels, street/strip/show bike) to the rally to show it off a little around all the v-terds. I just dont have faith in the aircooled big block 4 cylinder kawi making it very far without overheating, its kinda limited to quarter mile runs and short cruises

like stated before, you can get air shocks for the rear (autozone in the states, i paid $70 for them like 2 years ago) just pump em up when you need to carry more.

before i put them in i had i think 2" blocks, and 2 leafs in the rear, and hauled half a bed of dirt (was 1" off the axle and banging frame on a few bad bumps... lol) the shocks would have helped a lot at that time!

Don't mean to hijack the thread but that's a killer sounding bike will ya put up some pics for us. I too am in the same situation as you I would like to use the truck to haul stuff sometimes so I too will be doing the airshock thing.

No problem jacking the thread, i would love to show off the bike, i got a few pictures i can post up. The dragbike i mentioned in the pic is currently undergoing a full rebuild, engine cases r split and getting reassembled with a welded crank, racecut tranny, HD 2nd gear, lockup clutch, topend consists of an MRE big block, 1428cc gas ported pistons, .410 lift cams, and rs flatslide carbs. Hopin for low 9's this year with a still stock appearing bike other than the stretch and wheels

Only pics i have on my computer sorry for the crappy picture quality. The kz1000 i plan on hauling is the closest bike in the pic, middle bike is a customers bike i fixed, and far bike is my 83 gs1100e
