best way to do it? I unbolted it and cleaned the edges, but there is a huge gap around it. I was planning on using the door as the filler plate.. is that how you guys do it? or do you make a filler plate out of something else?

Its easier if you make a filler plate out of other metal. Just trace the original with a sharpie and cut on the outside of the sharpie line. Ive also used the old gas door. It just sucks when somehow you can see the inside of the bed, and you see the old door. Plus you have to shave the keyhole too, so one more thing to shave. You will do less bodywork afterwards if you make a filler plate.

Also, if you have an old bed, or bedside, with the curve already in it, it saves the step of having to shape the metal.

UNLESS IT'S A 4 WD BED, I'VE GOT TO MAKE ONE, & BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE CURVE IN THERE OF THE FENDER FLARE.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

when i did mine, i just used the door as my template, if you use a sharpie to trace around the door on new sheetmetal, it will almost perfect. the thickness of the sharpie will take care of extras space you need.
