I run stock halogens. I don't find any problems with them. I did have a pair of Silverstars which were great, but they were like 4 years old and i had them in like 3 other cars before I put them in my Mazda and my low beams simultaneously burnt out one night (well, within a couple mins of each other),leaving me with only highbeams to drive home. That was fun, getting flashed by everyone, lol
I'm planning to upgrade to the H4 Angel Eye diamond cut lights in the spring.
When I had my '95 Contour, they have piss poor headlights from the factory, you can't see worth poo at night, even with the highbeams. A trick I learned from the Contour club, since those cars use 9005 and 9006 bulbs for the low and high beams,is that you can use the 9005 high beam bulb and grind down the little tabs in the socket of the bulb so they fit into the low beam socket. This way,you can run 4 high beam bulbs. It's noticeably brighter, but because of the way the lenses are designed, the highs in the low spot are not as bright as they would be in the high beam spot,so you're not blinding people as you're driving down the road with your low beams (with high beam bulbs). I never had anyone flahs me,and I was using Silverstar highbeams i4 all 4. When I turned on my highs,it was like daytime, lol.
And then I added Hella Optilux 2500 angel eye driving lights where the stock fog lights would have been in the bumper, with H4 bulbs....yeah,I had people flash me ALL the time, and they were pointed down. Guess H4s and Silverstar highs-in the lows was too much for them. SO when they'd get pissed and flash me,I'd flash em back just to be like 'screw you, those arent my brights, ass!"
