is there any reason i shouldnt mount the gas tank behind the cab? since i have my truck runing now i am starting on the body work and i am getting ready to pull the bed off and weld in my notches this week and i was also going to relocate my gas tank and shave the tailgate. i was thinking maybe it would be safer in a rear end collision not to have my gas tank right inside the back of the bed. Im also going to bag it soon and i will have to put the air tank by the tailgate will this work.

yes, you can leave the tank in the stock location as long as you can raise it enough for it to not be a danger to get hit by anything. and yes the air tank can be mounted by the tail gate

And If we could get total clarity in regards to legality when relocating gas tanks and filler doors that would be awesome!

I have my gas tank in the bed,and my air tank by the tail gate I dont see any problems doing it that way.

I appreciate your input i had originally planned to put by the tailgate but when i got ready to start on it i thought maybe i could do it another way just make it a little safer....or a least as safe as 15 gallons of gas in the bed of a truck can be.

hey bro, check out my pics. my 83's tank is raised 3" and clears the frame real nice. and the nitrogen is in the front of the bed.

i don't think it's legal anywhere to move your gas tank if you want to get technical, and fuel cells are illegal in anything but offroad and track cars. part of this is emissions
