I'm in the middle of restoring my 91 B2200, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get all the built up crap out of the frame rails. right near the back of the cab, I've noticed that in the section of the frame that "snakes" up, I've found a ton of gravel / debris / rust flakes built up in that area, and possibly further forward. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into how to get all that crap out of the frame, so as it won't rust out prematurely. Is there a drain cut in the frame further up that I haven't noticed, and if so, does that mean I can flush the frame out with water? Will I need to jack up the front end as much as I can, and try to shake / scrape out the stuff? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

yea its a pain in the ass but you deffinatly want to get that junk out...i never thought about water. but garden hose would probably work pretty good.. if you had a welder you could cut a lille hole..like 3 inces big in the frame to get the junk out then plate it back up...its annoying cu there are these little spreadders in the frame that keep all the jung from coming right out... i had my body off when i did the backhalf so after i chopped the frame i used my front end loader to pick the frame up and get all the stuff out.. it would be a good idea to use a creeping rust inhibitor to coat the inside when your finised ....

I was thinking of using the water thing, and actually cutting the frame rail on the bottom, making 3 slices, and bending the metal down. Then, when I'm done getting the crap out, just bend the metal back up & weld it. And yes, I'm going to try to find a creeping rust inhibitor for inside the rails. I wonder, if I went to RustCheck, would they be able to do that with their stuff?

water = rust

I would try to use some kind of a snake to get the big chunks out and then use preasurized air to blow out the leftovers. I mean.. its not like water isn't going to get in there anyhow.. but why add insult to injury?

And the reason its building up there is because the round crossmember right behind the cab that holds up your gas tank actually goes threw the frame rail and blocks it off. There is no accessable pannel underneith but there are some holes on the inside of the frame rail which would be a pita to get debris out of.

like mullet said, using water will only expediate the rusting process, you could always check on they usually have some neat stuff for restoration, might use some kind of rust killer, and get it on the inside of the frame, then a drill with a flex bit & a wire brush of some sort to knock off all the rust, then after getting all the debris out, coat it with a rust inhibitior......

Awesome. I'll have to do that once I get that all cleaned out. I've actually bought the Permatex spray can rust converter, which converts the rust to black oxide as well. I figure that once I do that to the outside, I'll givethe frame a good spray of black tremclad to make it look good. Thanks for the help!
