This is what happened to my 93 B2600i...

ok, here's my question...

I have an '86 B2000 sitting in my driveway w/ 4x4 fenders, decent bumper, stock hood with a scoop. The front end is pretty much complete. What would it take to get the core support and possibly the inner fender from the donor 86 to fit the newer 93 B2600i?? I figured if I can get everthing to fit from the donor, then all I would need would be a new hood, since the B2000 hood doesn't have the bulge to clear the intake.

Yes a LOT or grinding and drilling out spot welds!!! I had to change my core support awhile back....it was a biotch
im not sure with the inner fender but once you start getting things of you shouldn't have any trouble figuring it out

what i would do is just saw zaw the recked one off then worry about getting the good one off by drilling and grinding...its really more drilling the spot welds out so you better buy a few (10-20) spot weld remover bits, because they tend to wear out or break fairly quick, and they can get pretty expensive

good luck

I was behind an early caddy on his right, he was ahead of me in the left lane. An impala ran a yield sign on his left, collided with the caddy and "propelled" the caddy in to my "lane of travel", according to the police report. The passenger taillight of the caddy barely got damaged when it hit my driver headlight dead center. And then to top it off, I got stiffed by both insurance companies.

Man! Thats some BS! I think you should fight on it more! The one who did'nt yield to you guys should be the one paying for both of your guys' rides!

Anyways, like stated above, they will interchangeable. From there, you could use a drill to do the spot welds, or a grinding stone.

Rule of thumb: When removing the resistance welds, go have yourself a hayday on the parts you will not be using! Be very gentle on the parts you keep!

When you remove the damaged parts, make sure you do not drill all the way through the other side of the mating metal! It is hard to do a plug weld when you have a big gaping hole!

Find a drill bit and probably many more of the same size that are 3-4 mm larger than the resistance weld. Lets also hope you have an air hammer!

I sure did hate using a chisel and hammer to seperate half a car!!!!

You will save BIG $$$ if you can do this yourself...

EDIT: BTW, have you gotten this estimated at a body shop, and also damage assessed? If you have a bent frame, you are SOL in terms of DYI'ing it!

Estimated yes, damaged frame, no.

This one, you can see the caddy "jumped" my bumper and headed for nothing but sheetmetal, bumper bracket still in place.

You can see the imprint of the caddy taillight on hood right above headlight, well, whats left of the headlight.

Radiator and core support pushed back, radiator still holding water, so I assume its still good, if clutch fan was still there, it prob. would have eaten my radiator. One of my two electric fans is gone tho.

Hood was pushed up and back, and into the wiper cowl.

Two different shops told me damage was in the 3-4k$ range, definitley a "total" if insurance kicks in, I would fix it regardless. If I change everything I can, one shop told me they can remove the old support and innerfender, install the "new" ones, and paint it for less than $1000. I would have to remove what I can, take it to them (both trucks) to get the welding part done, then get it back to install all the replacement parts i.e., grill, bumper, hood, fenders, cowl, etc, then send it back to get painted. Seems worth it to me, saving 3000$!!
