Tailgate Question

I want to have my tailgate open from the side. Has anyone done this before? and if so what hinges did you use?

my 86 nissan had a swing gate but it was more problems than anything

I dont care about the problems i really want to do it. What hinges did you use, whered you get them, and how did you put them on?

they where custom fabbed i didnt build them...

I have done this mod and no special hinges are needed. Simply moved the stock Mazda hinges to the new location.

Only real issue was the end of the tailgate received a reinforcing plate on the inside to support the weight. The inside of the bed by the taillight was also reinforced some.

Wow! That is one awesome truck! do have pics of what the other side of the tailgate looks like?

Not at the moment, but can tak some this weekend. The pic you posted shows the factory latch being used with a flip kit to put the handle on the inside of the tailgate. For my setup I just have barrel bolt holding it shut (hey, it's a show truck )

what about a suzuki samuri or jeep parts
