Tailgate Hinges

I haven't really looked into this, but is there a trick to get rid of the stock style tailgate hinges? I'm not a big fan of the way they look with a shaved tailgate and a roll pan. But if I can't figure anything out I've already got a plan.

I think you can shorten the stock hinges. I have seen it done, but don't remember how. I think it involves redrilling the mounting holes and shortening the hinge.

I did chrome mine, but if you chrome a turd, it is still a turd.

I've thought about that. I kinda want to keep the gate... but plans always change. I was planning on hydros, but I'll probably go with bags now. I was just wondering if anyone has done it before.
