tailgate hinges

What if you took the hinge assembly off of a truck like a ranger or s10 that hinges on the outsides. . And retro fitted em on the outsides of our tailgates. . . I'll have to look into that. . .

I like the hinges, its kinda like a Mazda "signature" look.

Couldn't you cut and weld a box into the tailgate to raise the hinge up and pack it at the bottom so you couldn't see it anymore?

yeh ive been lookin in to the s10 hinges and things like that.

I think i'ma go to the j yard tomor and get some s10 hinges or somethin like it and kinda mess with it a lil bit. . .

The Hinges stick out about 3/4" . To use stock modified hinges you will need to recess the lower mounting part of both hinges the amount you want them moved back to hide behind Roll Pan so you can weld those spots up . After that is done you will then need to extend the Hinge part that attaches to the Tailgate the amount you recessed them .

I would recommed recessing the complete pocket on bed instead of shortening the hinges so no angles are changed and only extending the hinges on tailgate mounting part .
