well yesterday, i went down to visit chris (slamsonthedawgmaster) in ct to pick up some parts for the mazda, this got my mojo flowing and i felt like throwin some sparks and getting some work done...
so i installed my pop up sunroof. i had bought it from a local kid for 25 bucks...honestly its waaay scarier than it actually is...i measured drip rail to drip rail (324893 times) to find the center of the roof. once i marked that i went inside and figured out how far back to go so my visors wouldnt ubstructe my sky light. so made abunch of more meaurements front to back and marked those out...took the beauty ring out and placed it on the roof, made some more measure ments to center that on the center point i previously found, then i traced the inside of the ring.
well my next problem was the headliner, mine was the original plastic/fabric crap. so if you trip to take it down it pretty much would start to tear. so i took a grinder and made for cuts on each side of the marks i put on the roof. once i have 4 slits, i took my pocket knife and stabbed down thru the headliner. from there i know have marks i can see from in the cab. so i take the beauty ring again, hold it up the ceiling and trace it again. i cut the headliner out to the traced line...now i could cut the roof without catching anything on fire. so out came the air saw...the first time around the whole was a tiny bit to small...thats ok with me, can always cut more, cant put it back...so a few more adjustments and whaaalaaaa!!! she fit nice and snug...so i then took a tube of silicone and made a nice fat bead allll the way around, put the beauty ring on and snugged it tight...headling looks just like it did and i now have a nice breeze when i drive....
ill get some pics from the inside today, but i snapped theses last night when i was tuckin her into bed...
if any mods feel this should be in write ups or whatev, feel free to move it...good luck to anyone who trys this, just remember take your time, its not that hard...
