Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone's tried covering aluminium with fibreglass?
I have made a all alloy lid/cover for my tray that sits on top of the sides so it's really nice and low profile but because of it's size I was unable to cover it in one piece, this means that I have a nice big join that I don't really like and it has a couple of hundred countersunk rivits.
I was trying to think of covering options and so far I have come up with.
1: Cover with fibreglass and sand smooth and paint. (hopefully it doesn't crack)
2: Cover with vinyl. (like the old cars had on the roof's, nice idea but it would need seaming too)
3: Cover with a soft Tonneau cover and adhere it to the aluminium. (look like a soft but not)
4: Harden up, get it welded and polish the whole thing. (might be a hazard to overhead planes)

I would Like to cover it so it's all glossy smooth and match paint it to suit the Truck but if I can't then I'm leaning more towards the polished lid, this is alot of work though as some a**hole has scratched it when it's been parked somewhere.

I vote for getting it welded and polished. That would look pretty sweet

I vote welded then painted.
