Alright I'm looking to ordered one of these tail gate skins for my truck, I would like the kind that continues from the top of the box to the bottom of the roll pan and is one piece. I know its just tacked in like any other sort of filler panel with time between tacks and alternating sides so there is no warping.

But

Do you leave your original tail gate underneath the skin?
Do you use any sort of supports underneath it and the roll pan area?

Any other tips/tricks for install and pictures would be a great help

This is the style I'm talking about. I saved this picture off the forums a while back and if the owner of the
truck doesn't want me re posting it or using it as a reference just let me know and i will be sure to take it down.

Thanks in Advance guys!

My roadster has a grant full skin with a licence plate box. When I installed it over 10 years ago i installed over my tailgate for strength (I didnt know any better at the time) Worked just fine and i dont have any cracks after all these years.

I dont have any pics of the back. But there is three pieces of tubing behind it. A 1x2 at the top and 1x1 at the body line and the bottom. They are spot welded to the skin, and the bottom one is .120 think and has bracing runing to the bottom of the bed to help the rollpan from collapsing if something happens like the wrong switch gets hit. I will take some more pics when i get a chance

Right on guys! I'm purchasing this skin cause my tail gate is beat to hell and my lower license plate area is pretty warped as well as my box corners are dinged in from the bumper being pushed up. The skin will clean up the rear end of my truck real nice. My whole truck has been por15's and cleaned up besides the rear corner/tail gate area and this should be the perfect body skin to solve my problems. Thanks for the pictures the more the better! Did you guys cut out your oem roll pan?Ii'm Raising my box floor so ill be replacing the front inner box panel as well as more metal during the process.

Thanks Again!

Looks like you guys have done some serious body work and rather than make a new thread ill ask here cause its body related. Besides my box corners and beat tail gate this is the ONLY other imperfection on my truck and its one of those things i have left to do last. Its on my lower cab right above the pinch area and i have yet to check if its easily accessible by a body hammer in the inside but what do you think is the best way to fix this one? I have a slide hammer i have used to pull the dents from the factory bumper being pushed into the box with success. The dents a little worse than it looks.

Thanks!

Your going to need some sort of dent puller for that, a pin gun will work but will take some time but a big washer welded to the middle of the dent will work so you can put your slide hammer in it an pull on it. But you need to tap on the crown of the dent (the part that is sticking out on the top) as your pulling the dent out other wise it will take forever and never realy be right.

these work great for pulling stuff and work better then slide hammers sometime because you can keep pressure on it instead of hard hits.

you could build something like it with some pipe or tubing and weld a chain on where you need it and bolt it to the washer that you weld on. then put it on or under the frame and leave some sticking out where you can push it down and it will pull the dent out.

hope that makes sense i have been doing body repair and paint for 5 years so if you have more questions feel free to ask and ill try help as much as i can.
