How does everyone weld up there stock tailgates? Id like to use my stock tail gate as a skin so I can start smoothin the bed out.. After the tailgates done id like to use an old mazda hood to make a roll pan and plug holes and shave door handles.. Pics help also if you have any...

i was thinkin of doing this, this is how i thought to do it

measure the distance of the gaps between the gate and the bed sides and between the gate and bottom of the bed, cut some filler peices, gut the gate latches handle hinges everything off of it, cut the back of the gate out and fill in with a sheet of steel to give it that smooth look, weld the bottom filler piece in place to make sure the height of the gate is perfect, the weld in the two side filler plates, then weld inside the bed to the gate to give it more strength. grind all the welds smooth to make it look nice... dont know if that would work and if that was too confusing sorry thats just how i was gunna do it lol.. but plans changed and im gunna look for a standard cab to "sleeper" out lol so i want everything to look stock as possible now

I'd order a "cali-combo" from Grant Fabrication. It has the roll pan and gate all in one skin. Just weld to the bed. Then if you want the inside more smooth, make a flat filler to go from the bed to rail and weld her up!

Please save your money for a cali combo because welding that teling gate will NOT be fun
filling those gaps is going to be haggard and take alot of time. I know it never is easy to spend
alot of money on a fancy peice of sheet metal but save yourself some time and get the skin fron Grant

Thank you for your opinion i will consider it but would also like to see some done like this to determine it myself. I aint trying to be a azz. just want to see someone else who has.
