I am starting my project, to say the least. My question is maostly this, when painting my truck should I use black primer or go with a flat black paint. I am planning on leaving it flat black to go with the blk and chrome on the out side. What do you guys think?

you need paint to seal it so you cant just use primer

Definitely need paint. A primer doesn't seal, so it'll rust from underneath. It also has no UV protection so it'll look chalky and ugly in no time.

For a single stage flat paint, look into Hotrod Flatz.

Hotrod Flatz is a good way to go, but I wound up using 2 part epoxy primer sealer on my Caddy. It seals the metal and is good as an undercoat when you paint it. Mine has been outside for two yeaers and still looks like the day I applied it. I am very ready for a shiny paint job though. I am burned out on the flat look.

That sounds awesome, where would I pick that up? Can I order it online, or does one of the auto part store carry it? That sounds like a really good idea, it will look good. For now I just want the flat black to go with my black/chrome outside I plan to do. Thanks.

I used HotRodFlatz (HRF) on one of my trucks, good stuff. Lasted for a couple years before I got tired of everyone jumping on the flat black wagon. You can get pretty much any color in the rainbow in flat/satin that you want. I never put any clear on it and it made for extra time to keep it clean. You can wash it normally but I had to use window to keep it looking fresh (old trick someone showed me). If you're going with the flat black I would suggest using a flat clear that can be bought in the link above already provided. (tcpglobal) Ability to wax it will make your life so much easier if you like a clean truck.
