I want the truth about 12s

What is truly a good combo of 1 or 2 good 12s and a good kinda amp. Everyone tells me what they got is the best (just cuz they like the brand name). is it good to mix brands.

Just shop around look at different stuff that you like. consider the products physical appearance regarding quality of workmanship And RMS power ratings. As far as mixing brands It's not that big of deal, although some head units and amps corespond with each other at different speeds producing a (turn on/off thump).you should check out Crutchfield. com and even get on their mailing list they have excellent customer support and often have Two fer deals. And personally stay away from Sony stuff They are not what they used to be. hope this helps some.

it's alright to mis-match sub/amp combos...but it would not be okay to mismatch subwoofers: I.E. having one Pioneer 12inch sub and one Kicker 12inch sub

reason would be the specs would hadly be similar, one would pull more watts than the other, etc... it wouldnt sound as good as a pair of subs of the same brand and model

as far as subs go i like jl audio w7s (im the kinda guy who wont buy less than what i want) so im either waiting on a sponsorship or the cash, their amps kick ass too but i like nakimichi amps also for a head unit i am thinking eclipse did real nice with their new stuff. mids well boston acoustics are real nice. i hope everything goes real well with your stereo if moneys tight and you dont want to spend that kinda money go with all infinity they are real nice. and less expensive

Try this link to check out products, their spec's and what people say about them, . The big brand names and the biggest prices are not always the best. Sorry pancaked, but JL Audio (even with the huge name and good looks) is middle class, don't get me wrong its good stuff but overpriced. Try Image Dynamics or kicker solo's subs. I put one 10" (bandpass box) in a civic a few months back with a JL 500 watt mono amp and when it was getting tuned I had to get out because it was killing my throat it was hitting so hard.

Try even looking at running one sweet 12" DVC sub. And rember, you can have the best speakers in the world but you have to be able to power them. I think that this is the biggest problem that people have. Also look into enclosure designs and what works best for the space that you have.

Put it this way, I have installed one twelve hit 142 db, and I have seen four 15"'s only hit 138db. Money does not make the system, its in the design.

so much of of buying a system is how it sounds to you... what i like may not be what you like... your best bet is to go to a whole bunch of stores, and get them to demo product for you. Buy what sounds good, to you. What are you lookin for in a sub? sound quality? loudness? And how much money are your gonna fork out, cause there are alot of price ranges, from 50 dollar subs, to $1500.

I agree with cowboy. Take a CD or DVD with you. One that you know well so you can compare what it sounds like on a demo. That way it's your stuff and you know how it should sound.
