Hey all,

I've got a 91 b2200 ext. cab, currently undergowing an engine rebuild.

Seeing how it's out of commission for a bit, this might be a good opportunity to do some other misc work.

One thing in particular is that I want to feel out the feasibility of replacing the stock bucket seats with a stock bench seat from a regular cab.

Does anybody know if I'd need to be drilling any new holes? I know this is customization is usually performed the other way around (bench to buckets). I don't have access to a stock bench at the moment to measure/compare.

Also, I'd like to make sure that I can put in a middle seat belt on the bench.

My reason for doing this is that I'd rather be able to sit 3 people up front on the bench when the need arrises, rather than cram somebody into the tiny rear cab area.

You wont need to drill new holes. The bench will mount in the same factory holes as the bucket.

i heard its the same also. someone with a bench seat measure and confirm this?

also, welcome to the site! if you have any questions just let me know and ill do my best to help.
what all do you have going on with your truck right now?

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that it wouldn't require much to be changed over.

As for what's going on at moment with the truck, not a great deal. Just bought a house and had my first child ( a daughter). SO...that means my projects get pushed into the background to take second seat.

A little history though: I picked up the mazda for $200. Engine runs, but only barely, hence the re-build going on right now. Body is in ok shape, but has a few rust spots and dents on the bed.

Not sure what Else I'll do to it, once it's running. maybe a carb swap or anything else I can think of to get as high MPG out of it as I can as this is something to get me around a lot.

Haven't even thought much about the interior as of yet. Though I will probably attempt to make a custom shift knob. My father had a shift knob that he used in a '28 Whippet he was building that was made of bone. it was cool, it started out very dull and kind of rough, but it was polished over time just from the driver's hand pressure and the natural oils on your skin.

So I was thinking of doing something like that when/if I get ambitious enough.

yeah, i did the opposite of what you are doing... the bench seat only has 4 bolts, and they bolt directly into the outside holes of your bucket seat (the holes closest to the doors). It will definitly bolt right in.

Ok cool good to know. So my next question is that I know Mazda really didn't change much in the way of design for this truck during any production years.

What model year bench seats should i be cruising the junk yards for? As i've got a '91 could i look for anything from 87 to 93?

far as i no 87-93, yes. i have a tan one. the driver side on is ripped but a seatcover would take care of it. its just as comfy as my porsche seats. if u want it pm me and ill get ya pics. -bf
