I'm doing a burgundy to grey interior swap in my truck ina couple days, and I have to pull my dash and steering wheel. Never pulled either of those in any vehicle before. How hard is the dash to pull out and how do I get the steering wheel off? Do I need any special tools?

Thanks guys

Ya Mikey - you will need a steering wheel puller - Princess auto has some cheap ones that will work. Just be sure that you mark your wheel and stub with some kind of mark to make sure the new wheel goes back on straight. Damn those burgandy interiors. dunno what company thinks those look good.

The dash theres 3 bolts along the top . theres 2 on each end behind 2 covers , and theres nuts on the bottom bolts that goe thru a plate that looks like a L up side down mounted to the cab walls . On the inside of the dash behind the glove box theres like 1-2 bolts to get undone ... you can easily do this - you just have to remove the cluster and glove box insert and the cover panel for the heat /ac controls .

The steering wheel you need a steering wheel puller - if you have a pepboys or advanced auto they can rent you the tool to pull the wheel.
take the little screws out the back of the steering wheel to remove the center pc and you'll find the nut that holds the wheel in place. You may want to put some blocks infront and behind your front wheels so that your sure that the wheel you put on is straight .

Its called fast ratcheting .. or if you have a aircompressor driven ratchet - ZIP ZIP ZIP . granted i knew where all the bolts were from previously taking a dash out another mazda. It was roughly about an hours time when i pulled the dash out the red truck i just parted out .. i set a goal what i wanted done and the amount of time i wanted to spend there at the yard where it was taking it out .

i forgot to mention you must remove two 14-15 mm bolts that hold the steering colum up to the dash b4 you can remove it . They are located at the bottom of the dash near the edge where that vent for the a/c/ heat is . remove that you'll see the plate and the two bolts.

Yes you mentioned the two key points
KNowing where the bolts are that is key, and the steering wheel nuts they are a must

What took me so long was i did not know where all the bolts where and about the two behind the cluster i looked and looked then it dawned on me.

Also side note remember the nuts around the ac/heater knobs they hold the

Currently im have not figured out what i wanted to do with my dash i was thinking of glassing it or wrapping it either way i need to make up my mind soon so i can put it back in.

still it should not take 5 hours to pull a dash im with bagged89mazda..

Reguardless of knowing where they are or not - if at most for someone who's never pulled a dash it should take at most 2hrs for un experienced to pull the dashboard.
