Alrighty,I'm trying to figure out how I want to do my stereo in the truck. I'll have the money shortly to get a sub and amp and then my stereo is complete.

I've never hooked speakers other than a sub up to an amp before.

What I would like to do is get a 10" L7 and an amp obviously, but I would also like to hook up my 6x9s behind my seats to an amp to get their maximum power out of them.

Now,so I need an amp just for the sub and a seperate one for the speakers,or can I run both off one?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, this is just going into new installation territory that I haven't gone into before.

Thanks guys

why not get a 4 channel for the 6x9's and dash speakers, and get a seperate amp for the sub?

i think you would need a seperate amp anyway, i think theres a big difference between speaker and sub amps. (correct me if im wrong?)

Ive got a APX640.4 clarion 4 channel for my 4 6.5s, worth EVERY penny. clear, and they actually have bass compared to my dash speakers lol. i want to add some 6x9s like youve got too, think im just running mine off the deck though.

ps, you got any pictures of your truck with your recent drop? cya.

yeah I'll have pics up this weekend. I don't want to post pictures until I put on my chrome bumper and 4x4 grille tomorrow.

My dash speakers are 110w max and my 6x9s are 220w max. So should I just get a small amp for up to 220 or 250amps,then a seperate one for the sub? Maybe I can get some used stuff. My headunit is already over a year old,my front speakers are like 2 months old and my 6x9s are atleast a year old. My truck is the 4th vehicle my deck has been in,haha.

Thanks for the help mang

me personally, i would get a 4 channel that put out the same (or roughly the same) watts RMS as the RMS of the dash speakers....

it would most likely put out plenty to make the 6x9's sound good also.....

thats really your only option unless you want to buy 3 amps....one for front, one for rear, and one for subs....

The dash speakers I'm not so worried about. They're basically just there for fill sound. My 6x9s make the most of the sound and my lows and right now, just running everything off my deck sounds really good, right up to 50% volume. I'm still playing with settings and stuff because my deck has all these crazy equalizers and crossovers built into it,so the sound is minutely adjustable right down to the last little thing. Since my 6x9s are 3-way,I get lots of lows and many of my highs from them,so I think maybe just to get a 220w max amp should do the trick and just run my fronts off the deck. I don't really want to buy 3 amps, especially since space is at a premium in a std cab.

oh,what about an alternator upgrade? I've always got my stereo cranked,I'm sure it's putting a strain on my 18 year old alternator.

just buy an amp thats a 4channel but will do either 4,3,2 channel. you can do it as a 3channel with the 6x9s on the front and bridge the rear 2 channels mono into the (shitty) L7.

Get a 5 channel amp and you will be good. You get the ease of hook up, a channel for all 4 of your speakers, and 1 channel for the sub.

I think you will be disappointed when you amp the rear 6x9s and the sub. You wont be able to hear the front speakers and that is where you should get most of your sound from.

Tough decision - personnaly I would go for the 4/3/2 channel amp as "mazdawg" said, but Fantomrush has a valid point. The head unit sounds adjustable enough to compensate for some of the 4/3/2 issues though.
