wondering if ignition switch (tumbler) is compatible from manual to auto trannies, and what years??? i have a 91 2600i and i need to get another one, but finding one is becoming a pain.

on the ignitions from an auto tranny there is a lock lever, teh is disengaged when you step on the brake, you can still use that ignition if you have a manual you just have to disengage the lock pin,

86-93 should all be the same.I have a complete lock set (ignition and doors) I will sell u but I dont want to break them up.These are new with keys. BJ

actually i got an auto, and from my research they do have differant part numbers.

what you are saying doesnt make much sense to me, the brake safety switch isnt integrated into the ignition tumbler switch, its part of the automatic shifter and brake pedal assembly.

i guess i will search for one from an auto, i do actually need the doors and ignition tumblers, so if anyone has some from an AUTOMATIC transmission truck let me know.

If u have a part number,I will check mine as they are NOS Mazda lock sets.BJ

i fixed it today, it wasnt the switch, it was the cable part that locks it in park. the shifter was hitting park but the lever wasnt locking therefore the tumbler wouldnt rotate all the way to the lock position. i just had to adjust the cable thing. thanks for the help.

drpdmazda, you WERE correct about all this stuff though, never seen a design like this one.

just for the record, can you say that again? preferably in all caps, lol

glad it worked out for you, yeah for some reason there is a cable going from the shifter to the steering column, kinda gay if you ask me

actually i like the design myself, just the first time i have seen one like it. oh, and it doesnt actually have anything to do with the brake safety switch, its just the lock for the park position that releases the key from the ignition. when the tank gauge was put in the center console/shifter area the bracket was bent and thats why it wasnt working right.
