Hey guys, I have had this problem FOREVER. What is everyone doing with their antennas when they shave them? I am hopelessly adicted to radio (morning music, afternoon talk and traffic reports from the AM stations) and for work I drive a lot. 3 to 4 hours daliy. I hasn't been a problem for me before because the roadster is in the garage most of the time and when I cruise it I listen to my CDs. The roadster has one of those powered "hidden" antennas which IMO works like I have tried three different "recommended" brands, but they are all vastly inferior to the stock antenna mast. The reason this post comes about though, Is I am planning on driving the "new" Mazda daily and it too has a shaved antenna. I haven't investegated what they did with the antenna on this one, but it has varying reception. Sometimes its good, but then a block later static. I am thinking of putting a power antenna off of a MX6. I heard that they are a direct replacement for our stock ones. I just don't want to drill a hole in my fender. Does any one have any ides that work? I heard you can take a stock style antenna and zip tie it under the dash. Does this work? Please HELP audio gurus!

i got a powered antenna from an audio store. its just a little box that has the normal antenna cord and a 12v and ground wire coming out of it. you just stick it up anywhere under your dash and it works great. i think i paid about 25-30 bucks for it.

Maybe do a shark fin on the roof?

i think if you do a powered antenna that you should mount it in the rear of the bed.....like right behind the cab and have it poke thru the bed rail.... instead of poking thru your fender... i'd do the same with the roadster... except move it rearward behind the rear seats so the passengers dont hit it with their arms.

thats my .02

i wish i had pics of it but i dont / i had a honda civic ant. molded into my passenger side a pillar it worked fukn awsome i live 20 mins north of atlanta ga and i picked up 96.1 (atl station) like i was 2 minutes away from the station plus it looks sweet having your ant hide in your drip rail// all i done was cut a hole in the roof large enough to fit the ant. top and glassed over it hooked the power up and it worked fine

i used a powered antenna it works ok,

but when i had an old hotrod or something old would come in to get there stereo installed i would use a standard mast antenna and mount it sideways under the dash and make a braket to mount the base and so it would ground it, it worked great
ive been doin stereos for the last 10 years, and it seems to be one of the best ways to do it

Here's my .02. I have a friend with a trick '88 Chevy. He shaved the antenna on it. Made a quickie L bracket and mounted it between the bed and the cab out of sight.

I have also put them in the front fender, much like the guys ahead of me saying just to extend it and stuff it in the dash.

Thanks, guys. I think I will try the antenna behind the glove box trick first. I found out the guy had snapped off the mast and just left the base dangling in the fender. I think the power antenna frenched in the pass pillar or bed rail is sweet too. If the antenna mounted behind the glove box wont work these ideas are next. Thanks again!

what i meant by powered antenna is its actually just a little 1.5x1.5x4" box. it has like a coil or something inside of it that when the 12v is put to it, it turns on.
