Tweed Dash or Paint?

I am going with blue and gray tweed for the interior of my truck. I need the boards opinion on painting my dash or having it wrapped in tweed. I had the local interior shop quote me a price to wrap it and he is saying between 300-350 depending on how long it takes.

I have read several posts and seen several painted dashes on this board and I think they look great, but I also know it takes HOURS of sanding and painting to smooth it out and get it to look that way.

So what's the opinion on here? Should I sand and paint til my arm falls off or pay that guy 300 bucks to wrap it for me?

i'd go with a combo paint and tweed

There are a few pieces that will have to be painted either way. One is the piece that covers the instrument panel. The other piece is the one that sits in the middle where all the AC/heating controls used to be.

5+ can's of True Blue Krylon, Rattle can. 2 yards of tweed and here is what you get.

My first time ever doing it and I couldn't be more satisfied with how it turned out.

That's a nice layout. I am thinking of putting my gauges in the old holes for the fan and temp controls. Then put my headunit either next to that or in the spot that is open right below yours in the picture. That looks nice though. Did you sand down the paintable parts or leave them with the grain finish they have factory?

Last night, I sanded a small part of the dash with 220 and then skimmed it with spot putty to fill in the grain. Sanded again with 220 and then spray a coat of filler primer on it. It looks pretty good right now, so I don't think sanding it is going to be that big of a deal.

My only concern now is how well will the fiberglass that I am using to fill in some areas stick to the dash plastic? I don't want to do all this work and then six months later have the shit flaking off.

imo tweed is sexy i love a wrapped dash and it is easier to clean for shows and what not

But it fades and if it sits in the sun for long periods of time, over time it will start lookin like cat hair.

Both have draw-backs, but imo I would rock the tweed!

Its clean/simple!
