When my back is all better, and I'm able to go work on the truck again, I would like to put in a different steering wheel. One that has more style. I I really like the factory steering wheel that's in my cavalier. Would a stock GM wheel fit? What other aftermarket wheels fit?

This is the style that's in my cavy.

It def won't bolt up. Maybe an installation kit available??? You'd have to check ebay or somethin

only direct bolt on would be similar mazda steering wheels..... the aftermarket world requires an adapter......

^^ Yup^^ What Andrew said. I think I recall someone on here saying they have used an MX6, Miata, or early RX7 wheel in their ride.

Just an FYI, if you do put an aftermarket wheel in your truck, be sure to REALLY tighten the center nut up. I used a Grant adapter and after about a week of driving I could feel it was coming loose. I caught it before it was a big deal, but thought I would share that. It would've really sucked to hit a bump and have the wheel come off in my hands!

This wheel is from a JDM RX-7 (86-93). Took about an hour of simple mods to get it to work properly.

anything aftermarket will work but you need an adapter.

Thanks for the info. Now I have something I can go off of. It's time to start shopping for a wheel.

I also had the same experience of a Grant wheel loosening up on me. Every so often I would have to retighten it just to make sure. Aftermarket wheels don't lock onto the spline like the factory wheels do.

For short periods of time you can get away with driving with your stock wheel and no nut as long as the wheel is locked on the spline shaft. I don't recommend doing it,but I've done it. Just a safety heads up. "Don't do what Donnie Don't does"

Pretty much whatever wheel you get, you'll need an adaptor kit. Wheels are really easy to install. I think I had my Grant wheel on in about a half an hour.

I bought a Grant wheel. Installing it was pretty easy. Looks good too. The trucks steering feels tighter and more responsive due to the smaller diameter.

I had the 3 spoke style of that wheel (Challenger 860). I agree with you...the 14" diameter made the handling much tighter and more responsive. Also provided a little more leg room due to the smaller size and not always smacking your knees off the old bus steering wheel.

For the $50 I paid for the wheel and adaptor,it was one of the most practical mods I did on the truck, though my lack of power steering did make parking and navigating drive-thru turns a little annoying.
