I just got a 5 farad capacitor. I've already installed the one wire gm alternator so I'm getting alot more amps, but for my stereo I will be pushin two 10's and a 15 with a 1000w amp. I can't find anything on the cap to see what the max is. But what my question is can I and should I run my stereo off the cap too just so thats that much less power being drained from the motor or could it cause problems with the amp or stereo? I've never messed with a capacitor this big and was just wondering how much it could take?

i have a capacitor, and it is actually pretty damn useless. just FYI.

your capacitor is used only for your sub amp so when you hit heavy bass your lights and other electrical do not get bothered. that 5 farad cap is probably way more than you need. for every 1000 watts you need one farad so tyou have enough there you will never hurt that cap.

So should I run the stereo off the cap or will it not make a difference?

Shouldn't make a difference.... If I were you, I would not run it off your cap. it's so easy to tap in to existing wiring for your deck power, why run extra power wires around your truck?

Your deck does not draw nearly enough power to warrant the cap.

honestly i wouldnt waist your time with a cap. they dont do much. they are design to fill peaks when the bass hits. but the problem is they discharged very quickly and then have to be recharged. SO then your electrical system not only has to provide power for the system, it also has to charge the dead cap. imo i would get add a small secondary battery. and the best bang for the buck imo is the batcap 800. or a kinetik 600. but with a 1000 watts you should have a dimming problem. and the rule of thumb for caps is 1000 watts for each farad. but if i went by that type of rule id do 600 watts for every farad.

but with a bigger alty and a decent battery under the hood you wont have any problems with out it.

i personaly have a cap and at one time had a dimming problem but i went and bought a fancy smancy cap with all the lights and bull and all it does is annoy the hell out of me but then again it does its job.im running 3 jl 12w6's a JL 1000/1 And a jl 500/4 and jl seperates so the last thing i need is a dead battery (im going to be running duel optimas soon or drop the cash on a kinetik and put that cap somewhere else so it doesnt light my cab up bright ass blue

and other guys put them in cuz they really need it i personally need one
and only running 1000 watts you probley dont need one.then again are you running a good amp or is it a shucks special thats says "1000 watts" but in real life your probley looking at maybe 200

id go two batteries and not even bother with a cap. i recommend powermaster xs batteries. awesome batteries

the cap should be ran only ro the amplifier. the electrical draw from the radio versus the electrical draw from the amp is like comparing apples to oranges.... a true 1000watt rms amp will pull anywhere from 50-80 amps. but again for the amp to push that much it will need proper power. a capacitor of at least 1 farad (normally use 1 farad per 1000 true watts), an external (second) battery like an optima, decently sized power wire (4 gauge minimum).

if you are worried about your electrical system being drained from your amp (lights dimming at night, dead battery etc) you should add a second battery/capacitor and minimum of 4 ga wiring.

if you are using another amp for mids/highs then also take that draw into consideration as well. the stock mazda alternator only pushes from 50-60amps MAX! a 100amp 1 wire alternator will push around 40-60 at idle and 100amps when running at 2000rpm and above.

also make sure you have a good and dependable main battery as well. also consider using wither a battery isolator or a stinger sr200 relay to charge the back battery while you drive as well as "disconnect" the rear battery when the truck is turned off. that way you wont have to worry about killing your main battery if you play your system with the vehicle turned off.
