hey guys i did a search for alarm system advice nd i didnt find what im lookin for. im lookin to shave my door handles once i get my truck back on the road nd i was wondering what kind of alarm systems and shaved door kits you guys have installed. is there any real reason to have an alarm system if my doors are shaved? i kno that sounds like a dumb question but i dont want to buy an alarm system if its not really necessary ya kno.

It might be just me but I don't have an alarm with my shaved door handles but would still like one in case someone hits my truck, or uses a slim jim to open the door. Auto loc has some great shaved door kits that work with alarms. One thing though is with their solenoids you have to mount them horizontal. I've seen many people have trouble with them mounted vertical because it allows water to seep in the solenoid causing it to seize from the corrosion.

I'm a little lost on the shaved door kits also theres so many choices I wish someonen would do a "shaved doors for dummies" to explain the different options and accessories

you can use any alarm you want as long as it has "keyless entry" feature. all you need to do is use the lock/unlock outputs as your solenoid trigger.
the way i have it set up on mine is with a keyless entry system. i use lock to open the driver side and unlock to open the passenger side
you will need to use 2 relays (1 per door) for it to work correctly.
here is the relay wiring info

driver door:
85 - constant 12v
86 - alarm/keyless "lock" wire
87 - 12v constant (use 10ga. wire)
30 - to solenoid power (use 10ga. wire)

pass. door
85 - constant 12v
86 - alarm/keyless "unlock" wire
87 - 12v constant (use 10ga. wire)
30 - to solenoid power (use 10ga. wire)

if you want interior door switches then you can just tap into the wire going to pin 86 on each relay with a push button switch that is grounded on on side (two prong switch: one side to alarm/keyless and the other side to ground)

i used the smallest push button switches i could find at radio shack and they worked perfectly and cost like 1-2.00 for the pair.

hope this helps you out.

btw, if you use an actual alarm then when you press lock (and open a door) the vehicle is actually armed, just set your driver door to open with unlock and the passenger door to open with the trunk release wire. that way when you arm the truck your door won't pop open! but when you unlock it it will!

this is a good write up ,one negative to using unlock ,is if by any chance you have a notorious alarm ,everytime to go to disarm its gonna pop a door open .on everyone ive done ,i used a double pulse ,that way you have to push it twice ,and i use the trunk too
