I recently got 2 mtx 8000 12s in a sealed box, and im not happy with the sound. I am thinking about porting them, but not sure if i should. According to a calc I found online I have 2.758 ft of airspace. MTX suggests 2 ft of air with a 4X18 inch port. Will this work with what I have. Any help will be appreciated because this is not a strong suit for me.

what amp you runnin? std cab or ex? sealed up might be louder in such a small area... now is that 2.0' each? or 2.0feet for the pair? and i also know that just drilling a hole and dropping a port in a sealed box usually dont cut it, ported vs sealed boxes have usually a good ammount of diffrense in internal volume, also account for the ammount of volume the port will take up. what direction do the subs sit in the enclosure there in now??? sub foward port foward or even up will prob be your loudest if you do go ported.

Ported will always be louder its more effecient. And if you have 2.75 i think youll be ok if yu subtract the port area and woofer displacement should be about right. The 4x18 is thAt a round port? Or slotted. Id just make a new bix with your specs dialed in

x2....ported always sound waaay better when built right, ive done a couple boxes that are two tens, ~40"x2" trans line style port for each (slot of corse), and two cheap precision power tens, with alpine 1000w amp punked most pairs of 12's ive heard. then i did that same set up with p3 fosgates and god damn! but this was in my 06' f150, alot more room. this box is amazing though, def not some pre fab shit you buy from best buy.
