I just typed a few pages of wasted time on here and the stupid forum deleted it!!!
I'm glad I finally found my old truck. I had wondered for a while now what had happened to it but after a post on SSM I was lead here. I'm very glad to see that someone has decided to put the time and effort into finishing it up that life just wouldn't seem to let me do. I went through 2 girlfriends, an engagement, 2 jobs and having a child during the course of this build. Just a quick run down since I can't remember all that I typed before.
The truck was originally intended to have all 4x4 sheetmetal which I did have in my possession (including a 4x4 longbed). The chassis is built entirely out of 2x3x1/4" tubing and is heavy as a bitch. The rear frame section is the air tank and hold somewhere between 5-8 gallons as I can't find the paperwork from where we built it. The wheels are 18 and 20" Rox Gabbros. My dad, myself and Rich Hopkins had many a long day, night and argument over this truck and exactly where it was meant to be. I'll be the first to admit that when we built this truck in late 2002 there weren't alot of references to be had on the subject. We went off of alot of very knowledgable local frame guys and a healthy dose of trial and error. I had originally intended for the truck to have the SBC that it has now but funds ran very short. I had quite a bit of interest in the truck from several sponsors as well as some media people.
In the first part of 2005 I traded it off for an king cab 720 and some loot and drove my "dream truck" home. I have to admit that we hadn't finished alot of things on the truck and it came with a bed full of parts. It wasn't long after that, the ideas started pouring out of my friend's head about making the Mazda a dragger with an SBC that I started to feel sick to my stomach about the trade. The last time I saw it with the cut up firewall, bedfloor, cab floor and horrible pink basecoat really did me in. I had always hoped that it would get finished and own folks like I knew it could.
I'll have to look around and see if I can find all the pics that I have of the 3 different trucks that this once was, the layout of the rear frame section in the freezing cold on the back of our car trailer and the other various times.
It has lots of memories for me and I hope it does the same for you. Good luck with it and I hope to see it out and tearing up the scene soon.
