Well this is my baby. I bought it as a daily/motorcycle hauler in summer 2005. 5 hours after that it was static dropped (Good ol' torsion crank and blocks), and so it began. Between going to school and getting myself a career, the truck really didn't progress. I worked on it where I could, but it was SLOW.
I've since purchased a house with my OWN shop, so the plans have gotten bigger, and progress has started to happen at a noticeable rate (Thanks to an understanding Mom and Dad for the first 3 years in their shop!).
Anyway, these are the final plans for the truck... for now:
- standard notch, 3-link, FBSS air setup (8 gallon/viair 420c/2600lb/9 switch)
- shaved handles/cowl/fuel door/emblems/tail lights/smoothskin combo
- F2T swap
- then all the little details
And here is how it sits now. I get several days off in a row from work, so progress is pretty good when everything cooperates.
The 4x4 is a joke. It's anchored safely from above. Oh, and since it's the universal question, the wheels were on the truck for measuring purposes and deciding on notch/ride height.
Tranny x-member and part of the 3-link stripped and primed. Soon it'll all be nice and clean!
How it was (bumpstops all pulled off)
How it is. Bag mount tucks up underneath the ledge left underneath the upper arm.
I drew up my bag mounts and notches as I wanted them in AutoCad and sent them to be cut. After he build them he sent me pics. UPS lost the package on me however, so that's a setback. Looks like they screwed me over too, so I'll have to re-order !!!!!!!!!!!AVOID UPS AT ALL COSTS EVERYONe!!!!!!!!!!
They should be pretty cool. I had the top and bottom pieces of the notch made out of one piece each, so it's a 4 piece notch instead of the standard 8 piece. Should help with strength and looks.
I started swapping over the little things I needed to do between the motors. Thermostat elbow because it faces the wrong way, lower coolant line because it's 180 degrees wrong.
I pulled off the in turbo and exhaust manifold to measure to make a little elbow/exension because the turbo flipped 180 degrees which I need then angles down too far into the block. I need an elbow made up to move it out a little bit. (backwards for my application).
Hopefully going to finish all the wiring for the motor swap in the next couple days, then I should be back into the realm of interesting pics.
