I've done a bit of looking around on here and i'm not 100% sure if the fix to it is removing the sending unit and bending it or not. Reason being most cases I've read the gauge wasn't working at all Does this sound like the right path to go?

Anyways when i fill my truck up it reads between 3/4's and full (I thought maybe the pump just kicked out early) and having a 14gal tank i usually put in 10-11 gallons of gas and it stops again. So i know it wasn't empty when it read so....

Yep, you need to bend the contact arm.
It'll fix you right up!

Hate to bug you guys again, but according to rock auto there are 2 different sending units. One for std cab and one for cab plus =\ I have a cab plus but when i removed the sending unit it looked like the other one...

Here are the links
Cab plus
std cab

I remember my float being by the strainer when all the way down aka the std cab one. Could this be the reason my gauge is 1/4 tank off? ( I tried fixing it by bending the little piece of metal and I think i tweaked the float on the install as the gauge doesn't move at all now

I bought a factory sending unit for my '88 Cab Plus from Dan Atkins, a board sponsor, and it works great. I agree that your only recourse is to bend the float arm; and low tank readings are more important to you than what it reads at full tank.

Yes, having the wrong sender unit could easily affect the readings, the gas tanks are different shapes.

Ya, I also noticed the fuel pumps are different per sending unit as well =\ I'll try PMing this member and hope to figure this mess out.

As you said its nice to know how much gas you have lol

Got the problem fixed today, It was in need of a new fuel level foat/sensor w/e you want to call it. I got it from Dan and its spot on! And there was a world of difference between the one i tried fixing and this new one (slop wise) lol.
