My 90 xtra cab needs the door panels recovered in the worst kind of way. Looking for ideas to recover the panels. These are the type that have vinyl all the way up and over to the windows with the carpet inserts around the handles/bottom. Most of the threads concerning this question have no pictures any longer. Would like to re-use the current panels, almost going back to stock with them. But I'm up for suggestions. Thanks.

Just take all of the factory vinyl off of them and the foam as it will be junk after all of these years. As long as the factory hardboard isn't damaged you can reuse it. If not there is a metal strip that holds the hardboard to the plastic upper piece. Take that apart and just recreate the hardboard portion and then reattach.

To get the factory pattern you will have to get your sewing machine out and try to duplicate the stitching. Then glue it back on.

So any suggestions on actual materials to cover the door panels?

If you want the factory look use vinyl. Use a heat gun and try wrapping it around some test pieces before doing the actual panels. Also mess around with the amount of glue that you will need.

You can use any material that you want. the factory panels are very easy to do as they don't have any real curves or bends, just the outter edge. Anything that you get, mess around with it first.
