i have a question. im wanting to do the FE3 swap into my 87 B2000 and i want to keep it carb'd. which intake manifold if any could i use to accomplish this. i have looked at the B2000 and the RX7 but i dont see a fitment match. does anyone know if this is possible? Thank You.

I suppose a carb is possible but why? You would need a custom intake manifold for one. You'd need an aftermarket ignition for DIS since there is no distributor. There is probably much more to it than that but once again why?

I just like working with the carb. dont get me wrong EFI is cool and simple to work with. but i just wanted to know if there was a simple solution to the intake manifold. plus i live in Cali and i also wanted to keep the swap under the radar of smog techs. if i go EFI i have to spend alot of money to get every single thing that has to do with the FE3 motor. close to everything under the hood.

I thought about this myself. I would look into sourcing a side-draft manifold from a Datsun/Nissan and either cutting off the flange part that bolts to the head and welding on a custom flange that was made off the KIA intake manifoild gasket or modifying the existing one so it would bolt to the KIA head. Then, if the source manifold was already set up for Weber side-draft carbs to bolt on, your in business. Otherwise you'd have to modify that end as well. All of the above could, of course, be crudely done in sheet metal, too.

You still need to do something about ignition, so you'll be putting some sort of trigger wheel on the crank or modifying the CAS to supply a signal to a MSD box or the like.

Trust me, getting everything under the hood from a donor Sportage sounds like a PITA, but it all goes together and would be much easier on you than making it carb'd!

There is no such thing as a FE"3"

It is a FE motor Mazda licensed to KIA to build.

It is either a SOHC FE-S, or a DOHC FE-D

In other words, a KIA FE-S is exactly the same thing as what you already have.
Which means you gain nothing if you swap one in, with the exception that you get to keep your stock carb setup. . . the manifold will bolt up directly. You remove the plate that covers the distributor hole and drop your distributor in and you're done with that swap. You have just turned a fuel injected FE-S into a FE-Slug.

If you are wanting to utilize the DOHC FE motor . . . use the entire everything. It will pass a visual inspection, and it will not only burn cleaner but is will give far better performance and fuel mileage.

I would make friends with a good mechinest and see what he can do to the head and make it ecept a distrip from another dohc engine that is out there. i would imagine this could work but dist. efi engines are kinda hard to find or if you find a way to run the electrical and just use the carb for simple asperation then the mechinest could do it for you

I found an actual weber intake for dual 40mm. Checkout paeco.com/weber conversion. $550 for the intake, I got my carbs from craigslist used for $400.

Might as well tell everyone that Chevy trucks don't come with a Duramax diesel, because it's an Isuzu engine.

Everyone calls it an FE3, because everyone knows what it means.
