I concur with Justin. I have 2-wire alternator from an '85 Cavalier 2.0 that outputs 78 amps that came with the truck. The POs did the same flip number with bracing only on the front. The belt was so tight that it snapped the cheap casing on the bottom bracing. Fortunately, this happened in my driveway...
To solve my issue, not the best idea, but i braced the top rear with a flattened and drilled hurricane tie (.99 at Lowe's). Course if you're looking for show truck / more stability, brace the bottom as Justin said.
