Carb adjustment, white smoke on startup help

ok wurns out i had the wireset all crossed. the truck starts right up. i have also replaced the carburetor. can anyone tell me how to adjust the carb so that it wont die once i release the gas pedal?.
also there seeems to be lots of white smoke on start up any idea?. thanks
