OK, so here is an interesting one. I just finished replacing my trans from my 84 to my 83. Got everything buttoned up and now it seem like the clutch wont engage, almost as if there is no clutch at all. The only thing I can think of, short of a worn out clutch, is the release bearing is is engaging the clutch at all times. I can move through all gears while the truck is running.

Also a side note, the 83's clutch worked fine. It was just stuck in 4th gear. From what I can gather, the clutch is the same in both years. Any ideas will help seeing as I know I'm going to have to pull the tranny anyways.

Did you pull the clutch out and take a look at it when you had the tranny out? when you had the tranny out you should have just replaced the clutch,throw-out bearing and pressure plate since you already had it torn down.I would get under the truck and have someone push the pedal down and see if the throw-out bearing is engaging the pp and go from there,or pull it back out and replace it all with new and you won't have to worry about it .

New is always better when one is down there, but I would think that a worn out clutch would stand out like a crow in a dove cage.

If it feels like no clutch at all it usually means there is no movement at all.
Like paddy says, get a friend to use the clutch and see what you can see
good luck!

Figured it out. The TO bearing popped out of the clutch fork and was depressing the pressure plate. I had a feeling that was the problem but I just didn't want to have to pull the trans AGAIN....
